The goal of the project was to find ways to improve usability of information sites of the Capital City of Warsaw. The information site is a complex system as it includes both information about events, culture, healthcare, education etc. on the level of the entire city, but also specifically for each district. Warsaw is the biggest city of Poland with approximately 2 million citizens, thus their website contains massive amount of information. Taking this into consideration, designing the system where information retrieval is easy-to-use for a "standard" citizen is indeed a challenge.
We scouted 30 participants (citizens of Warsaw) to take part in usability testing. We took care of various demographics in the selection process.
We performed them remotely and were composed of short IDI and executing series of tasks on the current website and on mock-ups in Figma.
Based on 30 hours of recordings, we made advanced analysis. Insights with recommendations were reported in the form of PowerPoint presentation.
Our research project had character of online moderated usability testing (combined with a short interview in the beginning of each session). The schedule was the following:
- Product & persona discovery workshops.
- Writing research scenario.
- 20 usability tests, where each test had 3 modules (1. short interview to understand user needs, 2. usability test of the current site, 3. usability test of Figma mockup, which presented possible design modifications).
- Analysis of the recordings, generating transcript. Writing the report with recommendations.
- 10 usability tests on Figma mockup, which presented new site after implementing recommendations from previous report.
- Analysis of recordings, writing the report.
From July 17 to December 12, 2023, the UXMINING was commissioned by the Office of the Capital City of Warsaw to conduct a study of the usability of the Information Portal of the Office of the Capital City of Warsaw.
